Early to Middle Corinthian Aryballos, circa 600 BC
Globular vessel with a linearly rendered lotus-palmette cross showing a profusion of leaves and petals. The vertically arranged lotus flowers with crosshatched calyxes. Details in added red. Faded rosette on the mouth, tiny dots on the outside rim, five vertical lines along the strap handle and a small encircled cross below. For a closely related example cf. CVA Karlsruhe, Badisches Landesmuseum 1, 50, pl. (337) 39.8. Ceramic. Early to Middle Corinthian, shortly after 600 BC. H. 6.3 cm (2.5 in), D. 6.1 cm (2.4 in). Intact and of fine quality. Surface slighly worn in places, nice linear rendition of the florals. A tiny hole on the depression of the bottom. German art market (data will be provided to the buyer)
