Black stone head pendant with narrow elongated face showing a prominent nose, pronounced lips and beady eyes. A hole for suspension on the top of the cap-shaped headdress.
Similar stone head amulets said to come from Syria will be offered at Bonham’s October 2011 sale. Dark stone with brownish tint (steatite?) Near Eastern, 2nd millennium BC H. 4.1 cm (1.6 in) Sinter deposits. Intact except for a modern perforation on the bottom of the neck, probably intended to display the head. Collection of Prof. K. Müller, Bonn (Germany), acquired in the 1960s. Authenticity guaranteed |
