Roman Marble Head of a Girl, Severan Period, 220-230 AD
$ 2400

Head with the attributes of an infant such as a rounded forehead, a fleshy nose and chubby cheeks. Linear cut on the eyebrows, the chin with two drilled holes just below the lower lip.
Grave expression conferred by marked heavy eyelids and pressed lips. One ear completely modeled; the other only cursory because of its closeness to a now lost panel behind.
Behind the child’s right ear a short curl, the typical hairdo of the Severan period. The hair is hold with a fillet which is skillful tied behind. On the top of the fillet two lobes.
H. 5.9 cm (2.3 in)
H. with stand 15.5 cm (6.1 in)
Superb condition. Big grained marble with grey inclusions. Broken at the neck level. Flat tip of the nose.
