Coptic Textile with a Horseman, 6th/7th Century AD

Nice equestrian figure riding a long-eared prancing horse. The horseman holds scepter and orb in one hand, the other is raised to a blessing or greeting gesture.
The rider is stuck like a wedge through the horse which appears as a cubistic arrangement of different plain parts with linear details. The red mane is framed.
The image of the equestrian figure was a popular motif in Coptic art and embraced hunters, emperors and saints.
Scepter and orb define our rider as a Byzantine emperor; the raised hand though may denote a transitional piece towards the depictions of saints.
