Roman Bronze Lion, 2nd/3rd Century AD
Seated lion with sideward turned head and raised right paw. Neat incisions for the whiskers and the mane. The tail of the animal turns around the right haunch.
The roaring open mouth and the gesture with the raised paw denote the apotropaic function of the figurine.
