Woman riding on a mule and a companion behind, both clad in heavy himatia which they have pulled over their heads. On the saddle spherical burdens. The woman walking behind the mule with her head bent backward (as optical counterbalance to the animal’s head). Both women with their heads turned towards the viewer.
Covered with a white coat and colored gray (donkey), burgundy (companion’s cloak), yellow (saddle) and red.

Reconstituted from fragments, small edge of the base and area between the legs on the back side restored. Head, snout and ears of the mule reattached, as well as the head of the standing woman.
Provenance: Herbert A. Cahn, Münzen und Medaillen, Basel (Switzerland), lot no. 44 in: Terrakotten, Antike Gemmen, Sonderliste S, 1980. Thence Swiss private collection (data to the buyer).
