Boeotian Terracotta Horse, 600 BC

Boeotian archaic horse, the crested mane with reddish stripes. Black-glaze decoration for the croup and the outside of the legs. Linear eyes and trapping. Horses with reserved heads date to the early 6th century BC Boeotian, around 600 BC. H. 13.5 cm (5.3 in). Very fine and an outstanding hand-modeled example. Foreleg and tail missing, hind leg and mouth reattached. Applied glaze worn in places. Ex Swiss art market.
