Etruscan or Italic Spearhead, 8th to early 7th cent BC
Lancet-shaped, slightly curved blade with tubular socket. Two opposite holes for fastening the wooden shaft. One blade and one side of the central ridge heavily hacked. Such damages are known from votive offerings and were deliberately made to impede the item’s further use. The type is common in central Italy. For related examples cf. items no. 186 and 189 in: Alessandro Nasso. I bronzi etruschi e italici del Römisch-Germanisches Zentralmuseum. Mainz 2003. Bronze. Etruscan or Italic, late 8th to early 7th century BC. H. 16 cm (6.3 in). Jagged cuts on one blade. Pale green patina removed in places due to modern cleaning efforts. Swiss art market (data will be disclosed to the buyer).
