| Gnathia ware skyphos decorated with a profusion of stylized vine-branches (Oxford vine) which enclose a tiny alabastron and a wreath at center. Above several bands within incised lines. The back side with a row of white tongues, incised lines and dotted triangles. A dot-rosette and hooks at center, flanked by two hanging leaf-sprays. Graceful shape with steep wall and horizontal handles attached just below the rim. Standing on a low ring base. For the decoration scheme cf. item no. 237 in: John W. Hayes. Greek and Italian Black-Gloss Wares and Related Wares in the Royal Ontario Museum. Toronto 1984. Ceramic. Greek Apulian, 4th Century BC. H. 10.9 cm (4.3 in), D. 10 cm (3.9 in), W. over handles 15.5 cm (6.1 in). Reassembled from fragments. A small triangle of fill below the right handle. Brilliant black glaze with good preservation of the applied white, yellow and red color. Surface with minor pitting in places. The reserved bottom with remains of red wash.
