Etrusco-Corinthian Pointed Aryballos, 620-580 BC
Buff colored aryballos decorated with six rows of compass-drawn scales around the body; the rows alternating with red and cream dots on the scales. Small strokes on the outer part of the broad discoid rim. Tongue pattern down the shoulder. A strap handle with brown stripes from shoulder to rim. For a related item cf. vase no. 372 in: Wilhelm Hornbostel. Kunst der Antike. Schätze aus norddeutschem Privatbesitz. Exhibition Catalogue. Hamburg 1977. Ceramic Etruscan, 620-580 BC H. 10.6 cm (4.2 in) Reconstituted from large fragments. A small shard on the shoulder missing and restored. Surface and brownish glaze with some wear. Good condition. Swiss art market (date will be provided to the buyer)
