Gandhara Stucco Head of the Buddha, 3rd/4th Century AD
Nice head of more full sculptural form with small face on narrow neck. The textured hair gathered to a topknot. The facial features show heavy lidded half-closed eyes below arched brows, a sensitive mouth with fleshy lips and a pierced earlobe. Stucco. Gandhara, 3rd/4th century AD. H. 9 cm (3.5 in), H. with stand 16.1 cm (6.33 in). Superb modeling. Broken at the neck level. Old restoration of the missing nose, properly modeled now. Right earlobe missing. Well preserved original incarnate with root marks in places. Art market USA (date will be provided to the buyer)
