Impasto Kyathos, Etruscan-Campanian 8th/7th Century BC
$ 380

Hand-modeled Villanovan kyathos with bag-shaped body and slightly out curved rim. The handle is rendered with two flared tangs on the top. Slightly smaller than a related kyathos offered in Trocadero, but with tiny knobs applied below the rim. This small vase was most likely a child’s toy. The kyathos belongs to the Ansone Culture which was located in Campania and formed part of the Villanova culture. Villanova burial rites were shared in the Etruscan main area and in certain Campanian regions, like Capua or Pontecagnano. Ceramic, Impasto ware. Etruscan-Campanian, Ansone-Villanovan, 8th to 7th century BC. H. to handle 6.4 cm (2.5 in), H. to rim 4.8 cm (1.88 in). Intact and of pristine quality. Smooth surface with traces of the modeling stick. Ex Swiss private collection (data will be provided to the buyer)
