A large Tibetan copper figure of the Green Tara, one of the most popular meditational deities in the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon who personifies active compassion. This large (and heavy) ‘bronze’ probably dates to around the late 19th century. The face has been gilded and there are turquoise and coral stones mounted in the headdress and jewelry though these may be later replacements. The body of the statue has a rich brown patination. Many new statues & copies of varying quality continue to be produced in this style but this is a genuine old and attractive example. The statue measures 11 ½ inches in height.
