| A Burmese puppet from the traditional Burmese puppet theatre probably dating to the early/mid 20th century, the puppet represents a Minthamee (princess) character. This puppet was detached from its controlling strings decades ago and it has been used as a display doll. Total height of puppet about 28 inches The puppet is made from wood, its head and limbs painted white with chalk or limestone, the face was traditionally painted with up to 10 coats of paint made from powdered steatite. The features painted with paints made from red oxide of mercury for the red and soot for the black. The hair is probably human hair and the eyes are inlaid. The puppet is in fine condition apart from some chips to the face as can be seen in the pictures. | ||
