Green glazespills over the edge like a paionters pot on this very raw for by Koie Ryoji  enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Oribe Chawan.  The pebble textured clay is covered in a thin clear glaze, glistening like wet stone, emphasizing scoring in the side like meridial lines circumnavigating the bowl and primitive markings scratched into the surface along with shell marks where it was supported on its edge in the kiln. Knowledge of how it was fired makes the work of this artist and his work even more impressive, sometimes he seems to defy gravity with pools of ash and clouds of fire leaving one to wonder, “If this were the bottom, how did that happen?”
