Relics of the Nile is thrilled to present this superb large Egyptian falcon-shaped sarcophagus with corn mummy inside. The sarcophagus comes complete with only minor insect holes to the bottom of the piece, which do not detract. The sarcophagus is in absolutely choice condition with clear hieroglyphics to the front of the piece. The glyphs show the name of Osiris "The Manifestation", as well as references to Khnum and Amon "The hidden god" and "He who makes...". The facial features on the sarcophagus are outstanding and the figure of Horus, the falcon god, is superb. Even the royal Nemes headcloth is formed in suprising detail. The dowels that connected the lid with the base are still intact and the piece stands securely upright, or can lay on its back. Perhaps the highlight of the piece is not just the rarity of the sarcophagus, but the fact that it contains an extremely RARE corn mummy inside, which is original to the piece. The black residue is still thick and connects the mummy with the sarcophagus. Corn mummies were put into tombs as allusions to Osiris and his regenerative forces as exemplified by the crop-cycle. A truly rare and interesting piece. One for any true collector that is not easily found on the market! The piece forms an incredibly large display piece which measures 20.75" in height, 6.75" in width, and 5" in depth. Egypt, Late Period Ca. 664 - 50 B.C.
