Egyptian 3rd Int. Pd. Panel W/Uraeus Design!

Relics of the Nile is pleased to present this superb ancient Egyptian funerary panel. This piece is from the top portion of a funerary box, likely either an ushabti box or canopic box. This is a funerary piece as is displayed by the colors and styles used, as well as the display of the royal uraeus design. This is a symbol of royalty, however in this case it is more a tribute to royalty or the king rather than as a possession of an actual royal member and is a symbol of the riches to come in the afterlife. The colors are vibrant as presented in blue, red, black, and white. The row of snakes face forward and are present on the front and back of this piece. Another interesting aspect of this piece are the dowels still present on the side and base of this piece that attached this to the main box and to the remaining upper shrine element as well as the large groove down the side used to attach it to the panel next to it. The reverse of the panel still has significant amounts of the original gesso remaining as well as linen, which may have been from the interior of the canopic box. In excellent condition, this makes an excellent display. Very large in size measuring 6" in length! Egypt, 3rd intermediate Period, 1,070 - 900 B.C. For a similar example of a complete box, please see CM TR 20.12.25.11.
