The size of Bunko Bako: 16 1/8” Long x 13” Wide x 6 1/2” High. This is very fine Japanese Makie, Lacquer Bunko Bako(Box). It is made by fine Wajima Lacquer artist, Kousen. It came with Wooden Box as well as Tomonuno (artist’s sealed cloth). Top seal has Wajimanuri, second one is Artist Kousen seal. Wajima Lacquer is Ishikawa Prefecture, in Japan. Bunko Bako is made with the design depicted from one of “Tale of Genji scene scroll:. It is wonderfully done with Makie as well as Iro Urushi works. Upper part and lower part of cover area where slightly showing black silverish area are done with very fine silver grains which has very unique works. (Photo No. 10 showing close up area with silver grains.) The same silver grains are also done around the side but not much as top of cover. Inside box done with Nashiji works. The condition of Bunko Bako excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. It is dated from after the war, Showa’s work, 1950-60’s. The signature of Kousen on the back of Box. Please note: the spot at the corner showing the light reflection and not on the box.
