The size of Koro: 5 1/4" L x 4 1/4" Dia x 5" H. Very Fine Japanese Shiro(white) Satsuma Koro done by renown Satsuma artist Katsume Kizan. The body is made by very fine crackle glazing Kagoshima Satsuma body. The workmenship is fantastic. The cover of Koro has very fine double sides lattice work on the top as well as in the back. It has elephant handle with tripod legs. It came with Kiri(paulownia) wood Tomobako. The cover writing, "Shiro Satsuma Yaki"(white satsuma ware), "Sukashi Bori"(open carved), "Koro". Inside cover has the list of Katsume's merit(profile) "Kenjo"(honrably presented) To: Taisho Emperor as Silver wedding anniversary, Flower Vase Showa Emperor(Hirohito), Flower Vase Sesshou(secreary of plicy maker) Minister, Bowl England Prince Connor, Flower Vase In Showa 39th(1964), he was designated as intangible cultural properties. Showa 42nd(1967), he received Southern Japan Cultural Award. Then it is signed by Katsume Kizan and his sealed. Also the cover has the red chop seal of "Bunkazai"(cultural asset). condition of Koro, excellent, no chip, no crack and no hairline. Dating around 1970's. I do not have his birthdate and when passed away, but he was born in early Meiji. It is wonderful Shiro Satsuma Koro. Please see the close up detail of item at our item#705747. |
