Beautiful Japanese Seiji Celadan Vase by Sozan III

The size of Vase: 9 1/2" High x 7" Dia. Lovely Japanese Seiji(Celadon) Porcelain Vase by Suwa Sozan III. The vase is done in beautiful Seiji(celadon) glazing with porcelain body. It has Ho-O and Clouds design done in white birds and clouds under glazing. The bird and clouds design which appearing like inlaid works or relief works because it has little raised white. It is very hadsomely done. It is marked with Sozan square seal. It came with Kiri (paulownia) wood box and orange cloth. The box said, Seiji Un-cho-E Kabin( Celaden Bird and Clouds design Flower Vase). Then it said, Kore Sandai Sozan Saku Soi Nashi(it is truely made by Sozan III'rd). signed and chop sealed by 4th Sozan. The vase is excellent condition, no chip, no crack and no hairline. The weight of vase 6 lbs. It has unique Seiji glazing color only seen by Sozan family, which has greyish subltle Seiji color. The vase was made around 1980-2000.

Suwa Sozan III(1932-2005), he was born as second son of Yonezawa Soho in Kyoto. He studied under Tomimoto Kenkich and Kondo Yuzo when he was in college. He sutied at Kyoto Fine Art University at pottery department and he graduated in Showa 30th(1956). He moved to inherit the traditional work of Suwa Sozan 1st who was the member of Teishitsu Gigei-In in 1961. He was named Suwa Sozan III'rd in 1970. From then, he has received many awards including Grand Prix award in Kyoto design by Govenor of Kyoto. He passed away in Heisei 16th, 2005. Now, 4th Sozan is working.
