Japanese Scroll Painting by Goshun, Moon viewing

The size of painting: 15 1/2" Wide(17 1/4" wide including jiku end bottom) x 59" Long,
The imaze size: 11" Wide x 27" Long.
Title: Kanden Shogetsu no Zu(Palace Moon Viewing Design)
Artist: Goshun(Matsumura Goshun, 1782-1811) singed and chop sealed lower right.
Appraised by Raisho(Nakajima Raisho, 1796-1871) inside wooden cover, signed and Raisho's chop sealed.
Japanese writing inside of cover said, "Goshun Shinzeki Mugi Mononari, Raisho Kan"(This is truly, and no doubt done by Goshun, Raisho observed-viewd, examined, and his chop sealed.)
The scroll body with silk brocde with silk painting background.
The condition of scroll, excellent on painted area. More detail in the detail condition of scroll in the end of description.

Japanese antique scroll painting done by Goshun(Matsumura Goshun). It is very attractive original scroll painting and subject of two palace people appreciating the moon viewing. The composition of scroll is great with palace building structure with roofing as well as pine tree at forefront. The half moon is showing up with the clouds in lower area. The expression of palace official is great and very poeticly expressed as Goshun was the founder of Shijo school painting style which is combining descriptive style of Maruyama school and Bunjin ga(scholastic painting) which is lyricaly(poeticaly) expressed. The condition of painted area is very fine without worm hole. The top of scroll(Ten) has old aged wear and some worm holes, as well as the bottom(below painting area, called Chi) has a couple of worm hole. The scroll body never been replaced and it kept original scroll body since the scroll was painted. However, the painted silk area kept great conditon. The surrounding brocade(brownish) is fine except one area left side worn spot. The kiri wood box(container, storaging) cover with Raisho appraising kanji writing letters inside has beeon deteriated with worm eaten one side(left) which has new side wall placed. One area of painted silk area on lower area has little creasing. aThe outside Japanese writing said, "Kanden Shogetsu no Zu". The profile of Goshun and Raisho can be viewd at close up photos site. I have loaded the signatures of Goshun from the artist seal ans signature reference book published in Meiji 27th(1894). Title of reference book "Nihon Ga Jin Den" (Japanese artist book).
