The handsome head of the Buddha, Very finely carved with serene expression, With smiling outlined mouth, downcast eyes, large arched eyebrows in relief, broad nose and fragmentary pierced elongated earlobes, His hair arranged in rows of knobby curls and surmounted by a domed usnisa. Height of the head on its mount: 25 In (63cms) and 21 In (53cms) for the head alone without mount.

Seated in vajrasana on a rectangular throne. Wearing diaphanous cloack, his face with serene expression, elongated earlobes. His hair dress arranged in rows of large snail-curls. This splendid, very hard to find Khmer piece dates back to pre-Angkor period 7th to early 8th Century. The piece, made of hard stone is 2.4 Ft (72 cms) tall on stand. Acquired by the Gallery fall 2012 from the private collection of an English gentleman HK. previously acquired late 60's.
