An amazing amulet of exceptionally high quality, made of pale blue-green faience. Ancient Egypt. Late Period, c. 664-535 BC. A fantastic and large faience statuette of Thoth, the ibis-headed god. Depicted standing with one leg forward, striding. A very massive amulet in the best style, but unfortunaly missing the lower part and some of the headdress. Costum mounted.

Size: 84 mm. mounted, 55 mm. alone. The original amulet would have been more ca. 10 cm. high, so very wide and massive piece. Exceptional green colour.

Green-glazed faience amulet in the form of the jackal-headed god Anubis, left foot forward. The suspension hole at the back of the waist served to attach the figure, probably to the coverings of a mummified body. As god of embalming, Anubis was appropriate protector of the dead, and such figures are common in Late Period sets of funerary amulets.Very nice style.
