A wonderful lot of three Sassanian stamp seal from an old Danish Collection, dating 200-500 BC.

Seals in three different material, Carnelian, Hemaetite and Agate. All seals with finely patinated surface and fine Sassanian style. The best of the seals shows a bridled horse, the other seals with stylized bird and another more detailed bird eating.

Size: c. 17-18 mm. for each.

Priest or god standing with two winged animals an inscription behind, unntranslated and likely imitating Babylonian Cuneiform.

Size: 17 mm. and 16 mm. thick.

Provenance: The private collection of Dipl. Ing. Udo Schwalm, who was involved in construction work in the area of Van in the 1952-1958. It comes with a documentation. from curator Dr. Bodo Schwalm.

A “dancing” animal-headed figure with outstretched arms, probably a deity or a demon. Seals in similar design are known from Tepe Gawra, level XI/XA, phase XI. It is contemporary to Early Uruk period (4000-3800 BC).
