A very rare and very large concave bronze vessel, Indo- Iranian from Bactria-Margiana / Oxus civilisation, 2500 – 1700 BC.
This highly decorative and artful style bronzeage bowl, combines the beauty of the early Indus Valley ceramic bowls with stylistic elements from early Iranian bronzeage art. The vessel was made in North-Eastern Iran, which was the borderline between Sumerian/early Iranian culture and the cultures of the Indus Valley. The huge vessel is unusually large and well-made for the archaic type, measuring c. 137 mm in diameter and some 102 mm. high. Attractive design with the concave walls, a pronounced central round foot and a flaring rim. A piece of design that is modern today in 2010! Condition: Choice! - beautyful blue and green patina. Some corr. and a repaired crack in the bottom. |
