A superb achaic style cylinder seal in white agate, Achaemenid Empire, c. 500 BC. The seal engraved with the great king hunting deer with his bow, quiver on shoulder. Moon and star above and a fish swimming in the field. Note the greek style inspiration w. a muscular king or hero. A rare and interesting seal from this period! Size: 19 mm. Condition: Choice, a few chips does not affect the central elements of the design. Beautyful ancient patina! Ex. Old Swedish private collection from the 1960s - assembled from even older collections. |
