Exceptionally decorated bronze bowl, dating to the period of Abbasid dominance in Iran, 7th.-9th. AD. This bowl belongs to the interesting group of metal vessels which were made of high tin, or white bronze, in Persian sefîd rûy or in Arabic nuhâs abyad, an alloy of copper and zinc from around the 7th. cent and onwards. This bowl is artfully done for the early type with fantastic incised and punched decoration. Size: 145 x 65 mm. Condition: Superb! Sharp and uncleaned as found with almost perfect surfaces and a fine ancient dark toning which is typical for the white metal bowls, looks like silver. Some spotty verdigris would be cleanable, it so desired. A real gem that we highly recommend for any collection of Islamic art. |
