An choice example of a 17th. century German stoneware “Bartmann Jug” with brownish salt glace, Frechen or Cologne, c. 1600-1650.
As an early type of these jugs this jug has the wonderful grotesque bearded mask applied in relief of better style than the later specimens. This specimen also has applied heraldic medallions, making it possible to trace the jug to a certain noble house. Condition: Superb! Intact and as seen in the pictures. Only very minor glace imperfections or chips - no repairs!
