Very large decorated Islamic bronze bowl, 8th.-9th. AD

A superbly decorated and very large bronze - or white metal - bowl, dating to the period of Abbasid dominance in Iran, 7th.-9th. AD.

This bowl belongs to the interesting group of metal vessels which were made of high tin, or white bronze, an alloy of copper and zinc from around the 7th. cent and onwards.

This bowl is incised and punched with a beautyful complicated starshaped pattern on the exteriour and an interiour central pattern as well.

Size: A HUGE bowl, c. 24 cm wide across the rim and some 11 cm. high. One of the largest and heaviest bronze bowls of this type in existence!

Condition: Superb, with some verdigris, which can be cleaned. An exceptionally well-preserved piece. In this size and execution - extremely rare, estimated value: $1000++
