large Islamic bronze bowl, Abbasid 7th.-9th. AD
A superbly hammered bronze bowl, dating to the period of Abbasid dominance in Iran, 7th.-9th. AD.
This bowl belongs to the interesting group of metal vessels which were made of high tin, or white bronze, an alloy of copper and zinc from around the 7th. cent and onwards.
This bowl is of a roman/classic style w. a low rim and very wide, possibly designed as a food bowl.
Size: A large bowl: c. 22-23 cm wide across the rim and some 8 cm. high. A very large and heavy bronze bowls for the type! .
Condition: Superb, with some azurite blue verdigris, which can be cleaned. An exceptionally well-preserved piece. In this size and execution - extremely rare, estimated value: $1000++
