A rare Syrian cylinder seal, dating to the 2nd. mill. BC.
The seal was made in blackstone during the period of the Old Hittite Kingdom dominance but displays Babylonian influence, combined with local stylistical elements. 4-legged animal tended by a human figure in a long robe with a staff in one hand. Two other human figures with bird-like faces also present - one of these is upside down and both with tools or weapons in hand. Size: c. 15 mm. Condition: Superb! Beautyful patina with redish dessert dirt in the details and smooth wear Ex. Old collection, bought in Syria 1954. |
