A large bronze phiale, Achaemenid Empire c. 600-330 BC.
The type is typical for the classical Greek-Persian period and was perhaps invented by the Persian culture and further developed by the greeks. A hammered bronze, slightly oval with a large omphallos in the center and an open rim. Size: 160-170 mm. wide and c. 50 mm. high. Condition: Very fine, nice even dark green patina. There's a few minor repairs of cracks , seen as a brownish spots, this can be made much nicer given some patience and skill. Some uncleaned verdigris and dirt still on the surface. |
