Important Neo-assyrian cylinder seal, 1000-612 BC
An important yellow calchedony cylinder seal, dating to c. 800-700 BC. as the likely period of manifacture.

The seal is large and quite massive for it's fine type and thus rare and remarkable!

The seal depicts the seated king on a celestrial throne. Hi's holding a wreath and Marduk is facing right in front of him. Marduk is offering a scepter to a worshipper whose hands are outstretched. Above them a crescent moon is depicted, in the top-left corner the Pleiadesare depicted above the spear of Marduk.

Size: 30 mm. high and 13-14 mm. thick, so quite large.

Condition: A few minor chips, but in excellent condition, with a top-quality stone and no wear, very sharp, even sharp than the pictured impression in wax indicates. A top seal!

Ex. The Kjersgaard Collection, published in the book 'Cylinder seals as an object d'art' (as seal #28, p. 93) By E. Rasmussen 2010.
