A superb style cylinder seal in black serpentinite, Achaemenid Empire, c. 500 BC.
The seal is engraved with the finely detailed scene of the great king hunting a roaring lion or monster on horseback, using a great spear. Note that the lion looks a bit panicstricken and is fleeing the scene on it's hindlegs. Size: 28 mm. high and quite thick Condition: Choice, minor ancient chip, but othervise sharp as a knife and better than wax-impression indicates! Ex.
