Babylonian serpentinite cylinder seal, 19th. cent. BC
Beautyful cylinder seal, Old Babylonian Kingdom, c. 1800 BC.

The seal is engraved with a presentation scene where a seated horned god on a throne receives a worshiper accompanied by a minor goddess; the latter leads her protege by the hand. Interestingly, there's a huge scorpion behind the throne and a large bird. A crescent in field above. The seated god is most possibly Ea / Enki.

Size: 27 x 15 mm. - a large seal for this period

Condition: Choice, light smooth wear but no chips. A very nice seal!

Ex. Old US private collection, Hirsch Auction
