A rare and very attractive stamp seal with handle, made of black serpentinite, Hittite period of Anatolia, c. early 2nd. mill. BC. A terrific stamp seal carved and polished of one piece of black rock, carved with a distinct handle, and a triangular seal engraved with the image of a horned animal, possibly symbolizing the weather-god in the Hittite pantheon. Size: 27 mm. in diameter and 16-17 mm. high. Condition: Superb. Ex. German Private Collection, ex Hirsch. |
