Important large Aztec vulcanic offer table sculpture!!

An extremely rare and very important vulcanic stone sculptural figure of a Agricultural god, Aztec kingdom, dating to 1400-1550 BC.

This fantastic sculpture is made of a rare red vulcanic stone (andesit) and depicts a standing male god, which is likely the aztec god for agriculture. He is standing with a large headdress. The figure served as one of the legs of an offertable, where animal and even human sacrifices were conducted by the Aztec priest.

The figure is extremely impressive, measuring some 38-39 cm. in height and with the base measuring 19 cm. x 17 cm. Although the stone is relatively light, the size of this piece makes is very heavy.

Provenance: Ex Branner collection, bought in the now closed auction house 'Museumsbygningen' in Copenhagen, by the latest owner, a large gallery in Denmark.

Condition: Superb and intact.
