Lovely and huge Jade carving of an elephant, 19th./20th. century AD.
An absolutely stunning carving of an elephant in a splendid pale, almost bluish celadon jade with extensive red veins and inclusions.
The elephant well carved and superbly polished so that the surfaces are glossy.
Weight: This jade carving is massive. The Elephant weighs approx 1,7-1,8 kilograms, one of the heaviest jade animals we've ever handled. Size: approx 16,5 cm. long and 11 cm. high.
Provenance: Danish Estate collection, bought together with several other fine Chinese antiques, aquired at a dealer in Hong Kong in the 1960s-70s.
