Extremely rare and very interesting calligraphic bowl with inverted colours, dating Samanid dynasty of Nishapur, 892-999 A.D.
The calligraphy is white on a black background. A large and impressive conical bowl 232x76 mm. Wares including bold black inscriptions in the so-called kufic angular calligraphy were produced in the important ceramic centers of Nishapur in eastern Iran. The text often contains a proverb in Arabic or a series of wishes. Condition: Choice, a few minor repaired cracks, a few breaklines that have been restored, othervice full ancient surfaces with lots of crackles and some wear to the glace here and there. |
