Megasize black and white caligraphic bowl, Iran, Nishapur, 9th.-10th. cent. AD. With it's 34-35 cm. in diameter and more than 14 cm. height, this bowl is the largest and most massive bowl in the collection! The bowl was made during the Samanid dynasty of Nishapur, 892-999 A.D. Earthenware. Outstanding artful decoration of black Kufic caligraphy on a white basis glaze. An extremely rare bowl, splendid quality for this huge size! Note that the caligraphy is exceptional, this is an investment piece that would cost more than £3000 at a Sothebys auction! We can sell at a fraction of the market prices for such a rarity, so take advantage. Condition: Choice! Very light restoring. Early Islamic ceramics of this type and size are always restored to some degree. But in this case it's a fantastic preservation for the type of item and period!
