Japanese ceramic KUTANI Buddhist sculpture of DHARUMA, the mythical bonze, with his fly whisk over his shoulder and his detailed face showing his protruding eyes and bushy eyebrows and chest hair! His toes poke out under his robes all details well delineated and great attention to detail in this beautiful KUTANI sculpture. Condition is perfect, no chips, cracks or restorations. Height is 11.5 inchs or (29.2 cms.) Taisho era, 1912-1920.

Japanese wood & lacquer "Yokogi," or Carp fish, "Koi" with contemporary hook & rope. This was originally used to hold cast-iron pots over a wood burning fire to cook food inside a home! Well carved, nice form, with the tail fin nicely curved as if the carp is swimming. Circa: 1910-1920. Length is 19 inches or 49 cms. width is 4.75 inches or 12 cms. Condition is good.

Japanese hand carved wooden SCULPTURE of a large RABBIT sitting on it's haunches. Well modeled wiht a beautiful light slightly "shellacked," patina! Left ear was broken and has been repaired, but the crack is hardly noticeable. Condition is good. Circa: Taisho. Dimensions are 12 inches (30.5 cmcs.) x 8 inches (20.3 cms) in height x 5 inches (12.8 cms.) in width.

Japanese hardwood hand carved statue of a "TANUKI," or BADGER, with his left paw raised above his very expressive face and ears! This sculpture (which is very Shibui) has a wonderful solid, artsy, substantial "feel." Height is 9 inches or 23 cms. x 8.25 inches or 21 cms at the base. Condition, there are some knicks on the left sleeve and some indentations on the back which is "unfinished." Circa 1870-1900.

Rare, unusual large (16" in height x 15 inch diameter)Japanese WOOD and LACQUER DHARUMA HEAD BUDDHIST SCULPTURE. This was made as a MOLD for making large paper mache Dharuma heads. These paper mache heads were then painted red, white and black. One of the white eyes would be filled in with black by the owner of the new paper mache head, and a wish was made.
