LARGE 14.4 inch diameter JAPANESE Blue & White porcelain BOWL from the late Edo era. This bowl which was made with the "lost-wax" method of design/glazing has a flying crane in the center surrounded with bird and floral catouches. There is a kiln mark on the back in underglaze blue. Because this bowl was made prior to the artificial German dyes; it is a rich deep colbalt blue color. There is a hairline crack which is barely discernable from the front and a small rim chip. Circa: 1820-1860...

Japanese "coral-glazed" porcelain VASE with a DRAGON chasing the flaming pearl of knowledge! Dynamic dragon in real silver with yellow & green overglaze enamels. Well potted, with no chips, cracks or frits. Excellent condition. There is an unknown studio kiln mark on the bottom (see pix #6) in the same coral color. Height is 4 inches, (or 10.1 cms) with a diameter of 3.5 inches (9 cms.) at the shoulder. Circa: late Taisho, perhaps early Showa.

A refreshing IMARI BOWL from Japan with two cracks which have been repaired which is somewhat visible. The central motif is a potted flowering bonsai plant, with three cartouches of a goose inside an enclosure with bamboo and other trees. One goose or perhaps a fat duck is upended downwards in the water. These same cartouches are repeated 3 times on the outside of this childlike bowl. Beautiful wave design in underglaze blue inside/out framing the ducks. circa 1910-1920...

Japanese Arita porcelain BRUSH WASHER in a squat bee-hive form for the scholar's desk. The blue underglaze design depicts the ocean's edge with small houses and trees. It has a slightly raised circular foot and an everted rim. It has a 1 3/8" diameter at the rim, 3 3/8" = widest diameter, 2 3/4" at the foot and is 1 3/8" in height. Excellent condition, no chips, cracks or hairlines, but there is a kiln flaw (star crack) in the center of the base...

Japanese porcelain underglaze porcelain Blue & White TRUMPET VASE with a Hoo bird and peony & other flowers design and a floral design inside the spreading mouth of the vase. Condition is fine, but there is a small "kami-kizu" or "kiln crack" about 1 inch or 2.5 cmm in length near the base. It is hardly noticeable. Circa: Late 17th C. Height is 9 5/8 inches or 24 cm. Purchased @ Christie's in London. Part of an exhibit in the Kyushu Ceramics Museum.

Because of this bowl's age (pre 1868) the blue is from cobalt and not an artifical dye. Condition is not perfect. The glaze is in good condition but there is a stapled repair to a hairline crack.
