Japanese porcelain Blue & White PLATE with A Zen theme of the old master wise Monk and his dim-witted younger apprentice behind him in the bamboo grove! Real colbalt, (not the German dye that was first produced in the 1880's) make this a distinctive and somewhat rare plate with it's slightly scalloped edges. There are 3 slight hairline cracks on the back;, one of which shows through and is 1.25" in length. Circa: 1800-1840's. Diameter is 11.25 inches) or 28.6 cms.

Japanese white porcelain Mandarin Duck a symbol of marital fidelity which were given as pairs for wedding presents in China because the birds pair for life! Well modeled and wonderfully detailed, this would make a perfect gift for a newly wed or newly engaged person. A refreshing IMARI BOWL from Japan with two cracks which have been repaired which is somewhat visible. The central motif is a potted flowering bonsai plant, with three cartouches of a goose inside an enclosure with bamboo and other trees. One goose or perhaps a fat duck is upended downwards in the water. These same cartouches are repeated 3 times on the outside of this childlike bowl. Beautiful wave design in underglaze blue inside/out framing the ducks. circa 1910-1920...

LARGE 14.4 inch diameter JAPANESE Blue & White porcelain BOWL from the late Edo era. This bowl which was made with the "lost-wax" method of design/glazing has a flying crane in the center surrounded with bird and floral catouches. There is a kiln mark on the back in underglaze blue. Because this bowl was made prior to the artificial German dyes; it is a rich deep colbalt blue color. There is a hairline crack which is barely discernable from the front and a small rim chip. Circa: 1820-1860...

Condition is fine, but there is a small "kami-kizu" or "kiln crack" about 1 inch or 2.5 cmm in length near the base. It is hardly noticeable. Circa: Late 17th C. Height is 9 5/8 inches or 24 cm. Purchased @ Christie's in London. Part of an exhibit in the Kyushu Ceramics Museum.

The neck is decorated with phoenix birds and Buddhist symbols of scrolls.
