SHAN gilt lacquered wooden BUDDHA in Bhumisparsa mudra (Touching the Earth and calling Witness) at the time of Buddha's enlightenment while fighting with Evil. This Buddha, carved from a single Teak log aside from the fanciful ornamentation on the robe (both front and back) has a Lotus plant in water carved in relief on the base of the Buddha. This is why it is known as a "Fire Buddha," because it is supposed to guard the owner's dwelling against fire. Condition is good...

BURMESE Standing wooden lacquered MONK holding his begging bowl, is 30 inches in height, with a 7" diameter base. Circa 1960's. Condition is good, but there is a crack in the wooden base (see enlargement # 5) There are no cracks in the second piece that is similiar to this statue.

Well modeled statue of BUDDHA in virasana, (hands together in lap)from the island of Sri Lanka or Ceylon. The cast Buddha is connected to a separately made base. Condition is good, some slight oxidation. Height is 7.5 inches or 19 cms and the width of the base is 6 inches or 15.2 cms. Circa: pre-1980.
