Stone BUDDHA in Bhumisparsa mudra (touching the earth and giving witness style) from BURMA. This roughly carved Buddha is covered in black lacquer. Sometimes these Buddhas were covered in Lime (white) to protect (and disquise)the Buddhas from the various invasions they faced throughout their history. Sometimes, these Buddhas are covered in lacquer more recently for customs purposes to make them less appealing than they really are. In any event, this is an interesting Buddha, but difficult to determine the actual age! Condition is generally good, although there is some pitting from age. There could be some cracks under the lacquer, but difficult to tell. Dimensions are 22 inches (55.88cms) x 10 inches at the knees (width) or 22.54 cms. Circa: 19th Century.
