SHAN gilt lacquered wooden BUDDHA in Bhumisparsa mudra (Touching the Earth and calling Witness) at the time of Buddha's enlightenment while fighting with Evil. This Buddha, carved from a single Teak log aside from the fanciful ornamentation on the robe (both front and back) has a Lotus plant in water carved in relief on the base of the Buddha. This is why it is known as a "Fire Buddha," because it is supposed to guard the owner's dwelling against fire. Condition is good. Dimensions are 24 inches (61cms) in height x 17 inches (43.2cms) in width at the Buddha's knees. Circa: mid-20th Century.
