A rare early Mashiko ware example from the 1950-1960 period produced in the famous kilns of Mashiko, Japan. Mashiko became famous worldwide through the Mingei movement created by Yanagi Muneyoshi, Barnard Leach, and several other potters throughout Japan. The square vase is done in a black glaze while the top is a marbled cream with raspberry color mix. A seal can be faintly be seen of where the piece was produced. Age: 1950-1960. From an estate in San Francisco with a substantial collection of Mashiko wares from the period. Size: Height: 4.75" Length: 3.5" Width: 3.5" |
