Bizen ware Tea Bowl by Mori Tozan

Mori Tozan (1938~) is a noted Bizen ware artist known for his unique works using the anagama method in Bizen ware. Tozan has displayed his work in numerous exhibitions and has been recognized by the Japanese government as a special Japanese artisan.

The chawan was produced in the 1960s during Tozan's mid years as an artist. Tozan's Bizen wares are distinct in comparison to other Bizen ware artists for the ash glazes and the different textures that are formed from the kilns and through human intervention.

The chawan or bowl comes with a tomobako signed by the artist and is thought to be a work produced by Tozan himself.
