Japanese Makie of Rose Flower Tebunko Box

A rather interesting and rare bunko or document box done in lacquer with maki-e work done on the surface with motif of a rose like flower. Typically traditional Japanese flowers associated with poetry and literature are often used, but this bunko used a flower not seen in traditional maki-e. Age: Late Edo Period to Meiji. (19th century)

Condition: Kept in well condition, cracks can be seen on the edges on the box where the pieces of wood is joined together. Scratches on the bottom of the box. Overall the gold makie has not peeled or diminished, but still retains its strong appearance.

Size: Height: 5" Width: 9" Length: 10.75"
