Antique Ming Xuande Mark Four Legged Censer

Ming Dynasty bronzes were imported to Japan since the 16th century and were used in the interior decoration of court nobles and ruling warlords. When peace reigned during the Edo Period, the copy and emulation of Chinese objects served as the basis of inspiration for all artisans working on different mediums.

The object is a bronze four footed censer with motifs of dragons and scrolling waters and a Chinese mythical figure set on top. These wares were often produced from the Edo up until the Taisho Period.
