This is a fascinating Persian lacquer papier mache scribe box, qalamdan or ghalamdan in Persian, offered in beautiful rich original colors of the early to mid Qajar era depicting on the cover, two lovely young women, one holding her glass of wine while an old master observes. The astonishing miniature paintings on this polychrome scribe box is performed respecting ancient Persian poetry illustrating gorgeous ladies with their lovers, hunting scenes, landscapes, elaborate buildings, and floral designs. These delightful patterns embellish the cover and the contours of this stunning qalamdan dated from the mid Qajar dynasty (1794-1925), the 20th ruling dynasty in Iran. There is a minor chipping around the rear end of the box in addition to a slight discoloring on that area. With rounded ends and a sliding tray (all painted in fine floral designs), this magnificent scribe box measures 22 cm (8.66 inches) long, 3.7 cm (1.45 inches) wide, and 3.7 cm (1.45 inches) deep.
